DLC - June 19th

Once again it's that magical day between Hump Day and TGIF that we call Thursday. Some good news this week in the firmware business as well as leaks or pre-E3 information pouring in, but we have an update to play with, so let's have at it.

Add-Ons
The best part of today's pretty decent update comes in the way of Metal Gear Solid 4 Database. This database is seriously sweet. Providing all types of information about everything in this game. Truly goes to show what type of master piece this series truly is. There are time lines, relationship charts, details about technologies, the whole 9 yards. Images taken directly from some of the games, extra art work tossed in, and it accesses your MGS4 game save and either displays or hides certain data from you so not to spoil the game. My only complaint with the database is the interface just doesn't look as nice as I had expected, but it's still highly functional and extremely awesome.

Sad to say I bought Hot Shots Golf: OoB the day it came out and haven't touched it in months. Either way they've tossed in a new course to go along with the two characters they released in the last update. For $4.99 you can unlock the Oceania Course, but make sure you update the game and then buy the key to make it available to you.

The Incredible Hulk game released along side the movie looks like a lot of fun and I believe it reviewed well. Well today we get new missions for two player missions. Once I rent this I'll make sure to check this out.

GH3 hasn't had as many songs added since release as Rock Band, however in the past weeks it's dropped some decent tracks. This week for $6.25 you can pick up the Coldplay Track Pack.

It's just not Thursday with out Rock Band it seems as four new songs drop. No bundled pack this time though, maybe because there are 4 different songs by 3 different bands. Enjoy.

Demos
Fatal Inertia EX Trial starts out and really shows that it has no polish. Even the start cut scene looks unworthy of PS3 hardware. Game play is very basic. Drive fast, shoot other racers, win and gain the most combat points. Lots of available weapons all with different rules or uses, and there seems to be little to no creativity involved in any of them. After playing this demo, who would spend the $29.99 for this game?

I didn't play the Hail to the Chimp Demo today because I didn't have at least a 2 player buddy to play through with. If my sister had been home tonight, I would have forced her into a few rounds. Just seems like playing a party game demo by yourself doesn't quite get the feel of the game itself. I'll revisit this one this weekend I bet.

NCAA Football 09 has always seemed like a run oriented demo to warm up for Madden. However, every now and again a really good NCAA Football is released and people enjoy it more so than with Madden. This one isn't so bad. Could use some polish, you still notice the horrible crowd animations, player close ups still look like mannequins, the cheerleaders look like mannequins from horror movies, but the game play and general presentation is solid. Commentating is good, product placement for the usual college football broadcast is there and not over done. Overall seems like a solid showing and I know a few friends who will buy this as soon as it releases.

Wolf of the Battlefield: Commando 3 arrived last week for download and looked like a throw back to some side scrolling shooters but this time in 3D. To start out the game's menus are real nice, remind me of a well done DVD menu, and only force feeds you a small amount of info on the game before you start. Well think 3D Contra watered down about 20% or so. Could be enjoyable with 3 player online/co-op but I'm going to pass. I considering it when it dropped last week and after playing this it's not quite good enough to spend the $10 I have sitting in my wallet.

Games
Fatal Inertia EX releases today, but I would highly recommend spending some time with the demo before purchasing this. I personally don't think this game is worth $30 and IGN PS3 tagged it as decent. For once they were nicer on a game than I was.

Gurumin: A Monstrous Adventure ($14.99) (also downloadable via PS3)

Games
Fatal Inertia EX Phoenix Trailer
Fatal Inertia EX Titan Trailer
Golden Axe: Beast Rider Teaser Trailer - Hard to forget the number of quarters dumped into Golden Axe, but this looks like a page taken from Heavenly Sword. May just turn out well.
Hail to the Chimp ‘Campaign Trail Madness’ Trailer - Starting to really look like a fun party game, I'll have to rent it.
Linger in Shadows Trailer - Very artistic trailer, but absolutely no idea what the heck it's about.
PAIN: Character Intro Trailer - I still haven't picked this one up, but I'm still tempted. Shows off the last four add-on characters as well as a new one coming soon.
Prince of Persia Debut Trailer - This looks amazing! I just wish it showed more than half a second of the cel shaded style it's supposed to have.
Syphon Filter: Dark Mirror behind the scenes - Left my PSP at work, so I can't access any of the PSP/PC Store only content this week.
Syphon Filter: Dark Mirror full trailer

Movies
Step Brothers - I have to see this movie.
Step Brothers Redband - The bunk beds part is hilarious, in the first, but better in this one.
Themes
AST Dew Tour Theme is really unimaginative. Decent background, giant green Mt Dew inspired icons in the "Dew green" color and absolutely no sounds whatso ever.

There's also AST Dew Tour theme for the PSP, but as I mentioned above I left my PSP at work. However considering how bad the PS3 theme is, I wouldn't expect much more from this one.

Music
A lone MP3 released today to go along with the new hype for PAIN. New characters and more updates are supposed to start coming with the game so the theme has been released to remind people of the PAIN!

Well due to other distractions this update took WAY too long, so no more actual gaming tonight as it is sleepy time! G'night!
