Another Thursday, another PS Store update. Last week's update was tossed together in a matter of minutes as I was anxious to start playing PJE, but I got out the "meat and potatoes" of the update and left the rest for you guys! This week there's a lot to watch but no demos or games added to the mix so this won't take as long to put together either. Means I can get back to Trophy collecting in PJE and Uncharted!

Add-Ons
Qore Episode 03: August, 2008 features content for DC Online Universe, LEGO Batman The Video Game, and Baja: Edge of Control. And at a recent PlayStation.Blog article they answer some of the questions about Qore. Things like the advertising, and the two betas that are going to become available to Qore subscribers. As an old subscriber of the PlayStation Underground Qore reminds me of that and I can't say it's been 100% worth it, but I'm still glad I bought the year subscription. As more betas are announced and added to it, or other Qore exclusive content becomes available I'll likely renew next year if it continues. I'm a DVD extras junky and that's exactly what Qore is for me.
Snakeball has been out a long time, and suddenly we have add-ons! I played the demo and meanwhile not horrible or boring there are better options for fun out there. This game may appeal to a younger audience, so if you have a few young PS3'ers pick up the Snakeball Team Mode for $1.99 and let them enjoy some multiplayer action on or offline.
Pretty decent amount of NASCAR 09 DLC this week. One full race track and 3 skin packs worth of add-on for racing fans. I wasn't a big fan of the demo but I know people who have always enjoyed the NASCAR games. Might be more enjoyable with a driving wheel, I dunno.
- NASCAR 09 Montreal Track ($3.99)
- NASCAR 09 Skin Pack 1 ($2.49)
- NASCAR 09 Skin Pack 2 ($2.49)
- NASCAR 09 Skin Pack 3 ($2.49)
Thursday should probably just be renamed Rock Band Day, but until such a time happens we have our usual Thursday fare. 5 total songs and the Crüe Fest Pack 2 which only includes one Motly Crüe despite the name implying it's all Crüe.
Demos
No demos today, so I guess I'll use this time to play the demos from last week I never played. Since the release of PixelJunk Eden and the early release of the Trophies patch for Uncharted I haven't touched any of them. Hell, I think some of them still need to be installed.
Games
No new games for the PS3 this week, but I believe we're supposed to have Bionic Commando: Rearmed next week and then the week after that Ratchet & Clank: Quest for Booty releases. Turning out to be a pretty good span of releases for the PSN.
PJE @ 07/31
Bionic Comando: Rearmed @ 08/14
Ratchet & Clank: Quest for Booty @ 08/21
For the PSP we get a nice little travel buddy in Talkman Travel: Rome, Paris, and Tokyo; each city costing you $5.99. As posted in a recent post over at the PlayStation.Blog Talkman Travel is a new app that turns your PSP into a helpful tour guide. Works as a mini translator for things like "Where's the restroom," suggesting venues for a sightseer, and believe it or not pick up lines! Seems a little corny but may be fun and useful. Check out the article for more details or pick it up at the PlayStation Store PC.

Today's theme(s) is awesome because it could score you an invite to the Home beta to start soon. When you download the theme you're entered into the "drawing" and are selected based on your PSN usages from what an article at the PlayStation.Blog says. No clue how it quantifies usages, but check out the link for the full details. Now for today's theme(s).
After downloading the Home theme and checking under your Themes menu you'll find you really received two themes. One of them states that it's the Home Beta application, so I assume you have to actually use it for some time in order to have your PSN ID submitted, but honestly it's a pretty solid theme.
The Home Application Theme has a nice blue background with a Home Blueprint feel to it. Icons are simple but nice looking and my only complaint here is the Trophy icon. I know I've whined about the lack of Trophy icons but this is kind of weak. The only reason I'd say "hey, that's the Trophies icon" is because I know where it's supposed to go. It doesn't stand out and say "that's a sweet looking Trophy." Sounds are the basic sounds from the XMB but honestly the look of the theme is fine with out them. Hopefully soon Noel Silvia will release how to add sounds to PS3 themes like he posted in his original Theme How-To.
The second Home theme has one giant glaring problem. The bright as the sun background. The icons look amazing and the Home icon on the background looks equally amazing but that super stark white background on my 47" TV was enough light to eluminate the neighborhood. It requires sun glasses and pinhole projector to actually navigate the XMB. Toss in a much more subdued background and this could become my new favorite theme.
I've never played any of the Disgaea games, but Disgaea 3: Absence of Justice is supposed to be releasing pretty soon. I've read of a number of RPG fans who are big fans of this game and can't wait. Look of the game doesn't appeal to me, but I may have to check it out as I'm a big fan of RPGs. Either way today they drop 3 wallpapers on us in the "distinct" style of Disgaea. Doesn't appeal to me but I think it'll be enjoyed by the Disgaea hardcore.
This Tomb Raider wallpaper should have been released last week in the middle of Shark Week, but the detail in today's Tomb Raider: Underworld Mediterranean Shark Attack wallpaper is pretty impressive. I think Lara Croft is going to be the sexiest she's ever been upon the release of the upcoming Tomb Raider.
Well, time to go feed my Trophies addictions. I'm going to have to return my borrowed copy of Uncharted and buy my own. And just in case you're wondering, the game is worth the money even before the Trophies. But Trophies are just adding a lot more to games for me and number of other friends of mine.
